The Intercontinental Nuclear Institute (INI) is a four-week training session organized to promote long-term sustainability of nuclear power programme and infrastructure through capacity building, global dialogue and technical engagement in the field of nuclear science and technology and nuclear power reactor technology.

It is developed in cooperation with the Czech Technical University in Prague and the University of Massachusetts Lowell and is supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The INI programme provides experiential learning supported through subject matter experts in reactor physics, design features, planning, licensing, operations, engineering, management, economics, safety and security, radiation detection and measurement, nonproliferation and nuclear security and physical protection.

A key objective of the project INT/2/018 is to support Member States in the TC Europe Region in developing national long-term nuclear energy strategies as part of a globally sustainable nuclear energy infrastructure through capacity building, global dialogue and technical engagement. A sustainable nuclear power programme is considered to be one that is based on highest level of safety and security, real long- term needs for nuclear power in the energy mix, no proliferation risk and design and operation.

To this end, the Intercontinental Nuclear Institute represents a key contribution in the creation of an informed workforce capable of contributing to the long-term sustainability of nuclear power programmes in the IAEA TC Europe Region.
