June 22, 2018 - Today, the #INI2018 fellows got a lecture on Nuclear Power Plant economics given by a second speaker from Lummus Consultants International with some spreadsheet activities afterwards.
June 21, 2018 - This morning we had a talk on fire safety at Nuclear Power Plants from the CEO of EPM in Framingham, MA and a lecture on Energy Consulting from Lummus Consultants International. #INI2018
June 20, 2018 - Today was a field trip day into Boston! In the morning the fellows got a talk on nuclear policy focusing on non-proliferation and arms control from Martin Malin, Steven E. Miller, and Gary Samore at Harvard's Belfer Center.
After a lunch break, we got a tour of MIT's research reactor facility including a neutron travel experiment and an overview on the projects they are working on, all of which was fascinating! #INI2018
June 19, 2018 - Tuesday morning: the #INI2018 fellows had a lecture on nuclear materials from Peter Miraglia followed by a little "classwork" exercise on a materials case study.
There is some exciting outdoor stuff planned for later followed by a BBQ at UMass Lowell's Allen House!
Tuesday afternoon after lunch, we had a couple of hands on exercises on radiation detection with real sources and detectors!
We ended the day with a great BBQ at UMass Lowell's Allen House. Tomorrow we go into Boston to visit Harvard and MIT!
June 18, 2018 - Today is the first day for #INI2018 in Lowell! It started off with a tour of campus followed by @AgharaSukesh giving an introductory talk. We're on a break before we hear from the @UMassLowell Chancellor and get some lunch!
The rest of our day was quite interesting! UMass Lowell Chancellor Moloney welcomed us with a speech, after which we had a presentation on Export Control from a former U.S. Department of Commerce agent and one from the UML Police before lunch.
After lunch we had a talk on Nuclear Safety Cooperation from Mr. Nader Mamish from the NRC! We ended our day with a social hour and visits from the Dean of the Francis College of Engineering and the Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation.
Tomorrow will be another busy day!
June 17, 2018 - Today was the first day in Lowell for #INI2018! Today the fellows took a trolley ride and a tour of the historic Wannalancit Mill in Lowell for a nice relaxing afternoon before the institute kicks off tomorrow morning.
June 15, 2018 - It`s Friday 15th June and this is the last day of #INI2018 Czech part ... Today we visited DIAMO uranium mining company (in-situ leaching method) and we finished the day with a fine dinner at the Chateau! We experienced a lot, we had so much fun together and tomorrow our fellows are going to continue their adventure in US - so much to be looking forward to
June 13, 14, 2018 - Wednesday and Thursday were spent at the CTU University at dosimetry and chemistry department! Our fellows had plenty of different types or laboratory exercise and they experienced a lot ... Our last day ahead - mining company technical tour for Friday!
June 12, 2018 - Today our fellows continued with two Lufthansa pilots and their train game. They discussed how communication and teamwork (human factors) are important for not only safety. After, the discussion, how newly gained knowledge can be implemented in everyday`s life.
June 11, 2018 - Monday morning, the fellows had a lecture given by Dr. Máté Szieberth about Gen IV reactors. In the afternoon the lecture about communication, risk management and human error was held by two pilots from Lufthansa.
June 8, 2018 - Today our fellows visited NPP Temelin - 2 units VVER 1000. They were given a "lecture on the go" and after arrival they were provided basic information about the NPP and watched an introduction video. Then they toured the NPP, its turbine hall, cooling towers, electrical substations etc. ... Now are on their way to the Kozel brewery to get some relax :)
June 7, 2018 - Day four! Today the fellows learned about nuclear safety, security, and safeguards from experts on the subjects from both the US and the Czech Republic. We also had a guest speaking about NATO dosimetry approach in the afternoon, so every day something new :)
Coming up tomorrow is a tour of the VVER 1000 reactor at Temelin in the Czech Republic.
June 6, 2018 - Wednesday started with John Roberts and his presentation on Current status of nuclear power, we continued with Czech Ambassador for Energy Security Mr. Bartuška, talking about the Nuclear new built from the point of view of prospective buyer, where the participants were sharing their impression and discussing their country perspective. In the afternoon John continued with Back end of fuel cycle, where he mentioned the history and 2 different approaches how to treat used fuel and radioactive waste. The late afternoon was spent in the groups with mentors.
June 5, 2018 - Monday`s evening was spent in groups with mentors, so we are getting to know each other more and more :) Today`s afternoon was dedicated to the Research Centre Řež. We began with a lecture by Mr. Hrehor about research reactors, a history of the centre and descriptions of both research reactor LR-0 and LR-15. We then toured both reactors. During this excursion, we were given a detailed description of both reactor’s operation; we were able to see both reactors and even the Cherenkov radiation in the spent fuel storage! In the evening more working groups session :) Let`s see what we have for tomorrow …
June 4, 2018 - Today we officially kicked-off our 4th INI edition at Štiřín Chateau Hotel. We had many distinguished guests from the US Embassy, Czech government, academic field, NLO etc. During the remarks, the US Ambassador Stephen B. King and a member of the Czech Senate, Zdeněk Berka, stressed not only the civil nuclear cooperation between Czech and US governments but also commended the support of both governments for the INI program. Our distinguished guests Mr. Oscar Acuna and Mr. Ness Kilic expressed a great and strong support from IAEA. We are very glad to have been joined by all guests today as well as for all the continuous support the INI Programme has received. We look forward to the upcoming 4 weeks that will be spent, 2 weeks each, in the Czech Republic and in Massachusetts, US.

July 21, 2017- INI 2017 approaching it's end! It's time to celebrate accomplishments and look back on the 4 weeks of the fellowship. Starting the day with presentations by Dr. Abdullah of the TC department of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), followed by Dr John Kelly, the Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Energy and Dr Marco Marzo, the Secretary of ABACC. Afterwards the sides will switch and the fellows will get their time in the spotlight presenting their impressions of the fellowship. Afternoon is designed for fellows feedback and the evening will see presentations of group posters and a formal banquet with distinguished guests.
July 20, 2017- Last day of lectures of INI 2017! In the morning Dr Aghara and Dr Skoda are presenting material prepared by Dr Kilic of the IAEA on NPP Commissioning & Operation and Operational Safety. In the afternoon fellows will prepare their presentations for tomorrow.
July 19, 2017- Today the INI Fellows visited Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center, had a tour of Harvard and saw a Research Reactor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)!
July 18, 2017- Back to the lecture room! Starting with sessions on Nuclear Materials by Peter Miraglia, which will be followed by exercises lead by Steven Snay. Groups of Fellows started to hand in their posters that will be printed and presented at the final banquet on Friday!
July 17, 2017- It's week 4 of INI 2017! We kicked it off by another Technical Tour, visiting the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station!
Jun 14, 2017- INI has a day of Technical Tours today! In the morning, INI Fellows will visit grid operator ISO New England. Afternoon will be devoted to a visit of computing centre at Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center!
Jun 13, 2017- Today is all about innovations! Talking about licensing, energy storage, small modular reactors and various new technologies.
Jun 12, 2017- Today INI Fellows got to know what CANDU can do (pun intended) and visited isotope production facility Lantheus Medical Imaging!
Jun 11, 2017- After finishing lectures on Project Management by Reiner Kuhr in the morning, the Fellows got to visit the Research Reactor at UMass Lowell. Research Reactor Exercises with Dr. White are planned for the afternoon! As a reward for this packed day BBQ and back yard american games are arranged in the evening!
Jun 10, 2017- The US part has officially started today! The Fellows were greeted by the Dean of the Faculty, had lectures on export control, Nuclear Safety Cooperation with the USNRC by Mr. Dave Skeen and Project Management by CB&I's Reiner Kuhr. An hour of networking with our honorable guests is planned after the lectures.
Jun 8, 2017- The Fellows are flying to the US for the second part of the intercontinental experience.
Jun 7, 2017- It's the last day of the Czech Part! In the morning Dr. Mate Szieberth has lectures on Gen IV reactors, i the afternoon Dr. Sukesh Aghara will lecture on Safety and Security. Formal Banquet will close the Czech part in the evening.
Jun 6, 2017- Another Technical Tour took part today. The fellows visited the NPP Temelin the South of Czechia.
Jun 5, 2017- Today is a day full of lectures! Starting with Dr. Holger Rogner and Financing and Funding of Nuclear Projects, followed by Dr. John Roberts on the topics of the Back End of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Deep Geological Repositories. The end will be closed by lecture by Dr Ludek Jelinek on Water Treatment.
Jun 4, 2017- Today INI fellows visited the Research Reactors in Centrum výzkumu Řež! After this exciting technical tour, they will attend lessons on Economics by Dr. Holger Rogner.
Jun 3, 2017- Its week 2 of INI 2017 already! Today the group started of with a lecture on the go by Dr. Skoda on the topic of Uranium mining, afterwards had a technical visit of uranium mining company DIAMO in Stráž pod Ralskem. Now the students are back at Štiřín having a lecture on NATO approach to dosimetry by cpt. Jiri Janda, PhD. In the evening they will finish this packed day by presenting their experience from last week's labs.
Jul 30, 2017- Groups switch back at Czech Technical University during the second day of exercises. Intercultural Evening is planned for the evening.
Jul 29, 2017- It's soft skills training today! Lufthansa pilots Carsten Wachter and Daniel Schwalbe came to perform a workshop on Error Management and Leadership in High Risk Environments.
Jul 28, 2017- Today the INI 2017 participants took part in lab exercises at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Half of them is focusing on dosimetry, the other one nuclear chemistry.
Jul 27, 2017- It's first lectures day at Stirin today! Dr. Nuno Pessoa Barradas of IAEA and Ms Iva Kubáňová nuclear security consultant.
Jul 26, 2017- Esteemed guests visited the Opening Ceremony and a Tour of the Chateau. First working groups are about to start.
Jul 25, 2017- The participants have arrived to Stirin! BBQ welcome dinner is awaiting them.
Jul 12, 2017- The participants are known, preparations are finishing and you can now check the program of INI 2017.
May 25, 2017- While we are still waiting for the official selection of participants by the IAEA, we would like to share with you some of the confirmed Mentors and Lectors of the Czech part of INI 2017. The selection should be known very soon.

July 22, 2016 - US part of INI 2016 has been finished by official closing ceremony today.
June 9, 2016 - Czech part has been finished and all participants are on their way to Lowell, where the second part of INI 2016 takes place.
